The Naivasha area is a center of intensive large-scale agriculture, especially cut flowers for European markets. What is growing here is wheat and some maize. It is a beautiful part of Kenya, but very stressed -- air pollution, booming population, rains not always enough. I always feel a bit sad there.

It kindles the fires of thought when land is used for growing flowers while, over a hill or two, people starve.

@Ronnie 2¢: Yes...though the flower farms require lots of hired labor, so they bring a real benefit in a country with such a high unemployment rate. There are no Edens.
Ironic that the picture looks so peaceful yet you description is one of conflict and struggle.

@CRFoto: Good point -- and interesting to me because I don't see this landscape that way at all. I see air thick with diesel fumes, a brush fire on the horizon, and an intensely cultivated landscape pushing up against a dense wildlife population. Being aware of the enormous camp full of internal refugees just a few kilometers away also colors my view. I think it's wonderful how differently we all see things...one of the reasons we all keep taking pictures.
I love the lines in the grass... great shot.
